Algonquin Park — Part 1
... late September 2016

We made our annual pilgrimage to the park for the colors and some relaxation. Last year we were a bit early, but this year we timed it right. A day or two before the official 100% peak color, but close enough. We enjoyed it at a more relaxed pace than in other years too.

This time the photos are a mix of mine and Jane's. Sometimes because Jane wandered in a different direction than I did, other times because Jane's were better than mine.

We always go to Oxtongue Rapids, just outside the park. It's a favourite of many. It was right across from our motel.

Not as much color as we've caught in some years, but still a beautiful spot to soak in the forest air.

This brilliant Maple branch was hanging over the river edge.

The reflection of it in the river came out looking like hot lava.

We met a couple artists on this visit. Mike was at Oxtongue.

This was what he was painting when we met him. Beautiful.

My fashion statement for the day. I guess GQ won't be calling anytime soon.

Oxtongue Rapids is a hotspot for mushrooms/fungi.

These ones were easy to miss. Some blend in so well.

Another regular stop for us is this bridge on the Oxtongue River road.

This family was there too, enjoying the day.

One of nature's oddities.

Highway 60 in the park is the only area most of us see, but there are gorgeous colors & views at several spots along it.

As the old saw goes; pictures don't do it justice.

We met another artist at Tea Lake. She was painting the scene behind the easel.

This Merganser was at Tea Lake too. We watched him for about 10 minutes, as he struggled with downing the fish he'd caught.

At the Whiskey Rapids parking lot, looking like a tall spruce, this is an artificial tree that Bell Cellular put up to hide their cell tower in Algonquin. Good for them.

The bark is pretty realistic.

Driving back to the motel at the end of day 1.

We never tire of nature or of visiting Algonquin. Every year offers something different.

Part 2 later...
